WCG Event Pedestrian Path

At a Glance

For large events, a new pedestrian pathway will open through the basement level of West Campus Garage (WCG) and provide a dedicated route for pedestrians between Olsen Boulevard and Pickard Pass. By separating pedestrian and vehicle traffic, the project will improve safety and make it easier for people and vehicles to move through the area during large events.

Quick Facts

  • The pedestrian pathway will be open only during large events and will not be used during normal garage operations.
  • A new pedestrian entrance has been added to the northwest corner of the garage.
  • The pedestrian entrance on the northeast corner has been expanded, and the plaza has been reconfigured.
  • The pathway will direct pedestrians away from vehicle entry and exit lanes along John Kimbrough Boulevard.
  • Before events, vehicles parked in WCG Level B1, Row L, will be asked to relocate.
  • This project is designed to improve traffic flow and shorten the amount of time it takes vehicles to exit WCG after large events.

Project Background & Details

West Campus Garage (WCG) has been modified to add a new pedestrian pathway during large events to improve pedestrian safety and reduce interactions with traffic. Improvements have also been made to the pedestrian entrances of the garage and the plaza near Pickard Pass to facilitate movement.

Before and after large events, attendees travelling between Olsen Boulevard and Kyle Field through Pickard Pass will be directed away from the garage’s vehicle entry and exit lanes along John Kimbrough Boulevard. Pedestrians will be directed through the pathway in the basement level of WCG or around the southeast corner of the garage, connecting to Corrington Drive.

By separating pedestrians and vehicles, the project is intended to improve safety and support efficient ingress and egress from the area, as recommended in the 2017 Campus Master Plan. The pathway will only operate during large events and will not affect normal operations. To accommodate the pathway, vehicles parked in Level B1, Row L of the garage will be asked to relocate before events.

Directing pedestrians through the basement level of West Campus Garage during large events will reduce these types of conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles.
