Wait List & Assignment Examples

How does the wait list work?

For lot/garage choices that are not immediately available, a customer must add their choice(s) to the wait list for their desired lot or garage. Customers can be on a wait list for up to four areas and lot/garage choices should be listed based upon priority. For example, the lot you prefer the most should be listed as your first choice, your second choice should be listed next, and so on. You do not have to select four choices.

If you are offered a lot/garage from one of your wait list options, you will remain on the wait list(s) for any lots/garages you have listed as a higher priority, but will be removed from the wait list(s) below the lot/garage you are being offered.

Waiting lists are moved weekly, and individuals whose names reach the top of the wait list for a lot/garage with a vacancy will be contacted via TAMU email and offered the opportunity to exchange or purchase the new permit available.

What if I don’t get any of my choices?

Beginning August 1, login to My Account to select from available permits. You will be notified via TAMU email when a lot/garage on your wait list becomes available. Transportation Services will not assign you to a lot you did not request. Many lots/garages will no longer be available because the lists developed during registration are so lengthy that we are unable to fulfill any additional requests.

I did not receive my first choice. When can I get in and how will I be notified?

When your name reaches the top of the wait list for a lot/garage with a vacancy, you will be contacted via TAMU Email and offered the opportunity to exchange or purchase the new permit by the given deadline. You can view your wait list progress at My Account. For wait list move dates, please view the Wait List Move Calendar.

Does my position on the current wait list affect my position on the 2024–2025 wait list?

For students: No. After the last wait list move of the 2023–2024 permit year, all wait lists will be cleared. Wait Lists DO NOT carry over from year to year. You must sign up for a new wait list for the 2024–2025 permit year during annual permit registration by selecting the "I want to change..." option.

For faculty and staff: New this year: Waitlists for faculty and staff remain active from year to year. No need to resubmit your waitlist request unless you want to select a different location.

How can I change my options on the wait list?

During registration
Log in and follow the directions to change your wait list options.

After registration
Log in and use the My Wait lists section to modify your wait list options.

I have requested to change my wait list. How long will it take to process and how will I know that you received my request?

Customers may modify their wait lists beginning August 1, 2024. Customers may see their wait list position on the confirmation screen after the change is submitted. Many lots/garages will no longer be available because the lists developed during registration are so lengthy that we are unable to fulfill any additional requests.

I have a permit for a lot with residential priority (Lots 30 and 40, Northside Garage, Southside Garage) but won't be living on-campus next year. Will I be guaranteed to renew my permit?

No. Non-resident undergraduate students with current permits for Northside Garage, Southside Garage, Lot 30, Lot 40 or Lot 122 are not eligible to renew these permits. Resident students have a higher priority than off-campus students. If non-resident undergraduate students request to renew one of these permits, they will be automatically added to the wait list according to the assignment priority process like current permit holders who request to be assigned to a different lot. Assignments for this category are made based on priority by classification status and on a space available basis.

Non-resident students with West Campus Resident (WCR) permits are not eligible to renew these permits since they are reserved for resident students only. Non-resident students may purchase a permit for West Campus Garage (WCG). The difference between the WCR and WCG permit is a WCR permit allows residents to enter West Campus Garage on home football gamedays without paying the gameday parking fee where a WCG permit does not allow free re-entry to the garage once the vehicle has left on gameday.

I’m a freshman south side resident and I don’t want to bring my car to campus until I can park by my dorm. What should I do?

Login to My Account during registration (April 10, 2024 – July 9, 2024) and select Lot 40 and Southside Garage as wait list options (select the area you prefer the most as your first option). If you are not assigned a permit, you will be on the wait list for Lot 40 and Southside Garage. You can view your wait list progress on My Account by clicking on the My Wait list section. Once a space becomes available, you will be contacted via TAMU Email and offered the opportunity to purchase the new permit available by a given deadline.

I’m a freshman north side resident and I want to bring my car to campus and will park anywhere – but I really want to park by my dorm. What should I do?

Login to My Account during registration (April 10, 2024 – July 9, 2024) and select Lot 30 and Northside Garage as wait list options (select the area you prefer the most as your first option). Select West Campus Garage as your third option. Since you are a resident student you are guaranteed to receive a permit for West Campus Garage. If you are assigned a WCR permit (which will be the most likely case), you will be on the wait list for Lot 30 and Northside Garage. You can view your wait list progress on My Account by clicking on the My Wait list section. Once a space becomes available, you will be contacted via TAMU Email and offered the opportunity to exchange the WCR permit for the new permit available by a given deadline.

I’m a senior and currently have a Lot 100 permit, but I want to park in Lot 50 next year. What should I do?

Login to My Account during registration and select Lot 50 as your first priority lot choice. If you wish to add yourself to any additional wait lists, you will have the opportunity to add a total of four lot/garage choices at this time. It is unlikely you will immediately be assigned a Lot 50 permit even as a senior because of the very high demand for that lot and the large quantity of graduate students with higher priority who also desire Lot 50. You can view your wait list progress on My Account by clicking on the My Wait list section. Once a space becomes available, you will be contacted via TAMU Email and offered the opportunity to exchange your permit for the Lot 50 permit by a given deadline.

I forgot to complete registration before it closed on July 9. What should I do?

Beginning August 1, login to My Account to purchase a permit from those that may be available. Click on the My Wait list section beginning August 1, 2024 and add yourself to one or more waitlists that may be available. Many lots/garages will no longer be available because the lists developed during registration are so lengthy that we are unable to fulfill any additional requests. Requests received at this time are processed in the order in which they are received and customers are ranked on a first-come, first-served basis.
