How many bus drivers are there?

There are currently 390 student drivers and 15 full-time drivers.

How many buses does Texas A&M University own?

The University owns 89 full-size buses and 4 smaller buses. 64 are used for daily routes and others are assigned to charters. This number will increase significantly in fall 2026 when we will begin to acquire a new fleet of buses!

What is the average age of an AggieSpirit bus?

The average age of buses in spring 2026 is 12-years-old. In fall 2026, many new buses will arrive which will enable us to retire the older models, significantly reducing the average age of the buses.

On average, how many seats are available for students per bus?

Most of our buses have 34 seats, including the new shipment. We consider our buses full when we have roughly 70 passengers on board.

How many riders does Transit carry each year?

Transit provides more than 7 million passenger trips annually.

How many students ride the on-campus buses?

Transit provided more than 2.9 million on-campus rides from May 2025 through May 2026.

It costs approximately 82.56/hour to operate a bus on route.

How much are the student drivers paid?

The starting pay for drivers is $14 per hour during training and gets increased to $14.50 as soon as training is completed. Pay increases are based on the departmental Student Employee Pay Plan.

How much fuel is used for the daily operations?

From September 2024 to August 2025, AggieSpirit buses consumed 438,398 gallons of diesel. Para vans and cutaway buses took 17,620 gallons of gasoline, and electric buses used 26,090 kWh of electricity in that same time.

How many hours of service does Transit operate each year?

Transit operated more than 147,000 hours of service during the last full fiscal year (FY25).

How many service miles a year does Transit drive?

About 1.7 million miles in FY25. Our service area is 43 square miles.

How much would it cost to add more routes or to add more buses to each route?

WE are currently at maximum capacity with a fleet of 89 full-size buses. To increase service would cost approximately $275,000/yr. to add one bus all year and an additional $150,000/yr. per extra bus. Additionally, the average price of an AggieSpirit bus is $725,000.

How long have the current bus routes been in place?

Some of the routes have been in place for more than 15 years with minor changes made when needed. Routes are evaluated regularly to look for improvement.

How are the routes determined?

Route placement is based on requests for service and student population density data in the Bryan-College Station area.
